New Moons Add Bulls, a Ram, Lambs, and a Goat
The month's beginning brings bulls, a ram, seven lambs, and a goat
In the beginnings of the months, Israel offers two young bullocks, one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot. Grain offerings scale with the animal: three tenths of flour with oil for a bullock, two tenths for the ram, a tenth for each lamb. Drink offerings scale too: half a hin of wine for a bullock, a third for the ram, a fourth for a lamb. One kid of the goats for a sin offering is added to the continual burnt offering.
A larger sequence marks lunar time. The goat is for purification in addition to the daily lambs. The calendar is not a cipher for secret prophecy, an astrological chart, or a demand that later communities pay by the moon.

Mark months without reading the sky as a code. Do not turn new-moon offerings into compulsory giving or into a timetable for markets and wars.
