Appointed Offerings Stand beside Voluntary Gifts
Appointed times do not swallow vows and freewill gifts
These things Israel is to do to the LORD in their set feasts, beside their vows, and beside their freewill offerings, for burnt offerings, meat offerings, drink offerings, and peace offerings. Moses tells the children of Israel according to all that the LORD commanded him.
Calendar obligation and voluntary gift are two columns. Leaders may not relabel a required payment as if it were a free gift, and they may not use vows to pile extra pressure on people already keeping the appointed fire.
How this should shape us
Publish what is required and what is voluntary as separate lists. Do not let a festival calendar become a second pledge drive, and do not treat Moses' transmission as a license to keep asking after the set gifts are named.
