Proverbs 8:32–36
Listen to Wisdom and choose life
The creation poem turns into a daily watch at Wisdom's doors
Now then, children, listen to me: happy are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Happy is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.
Gates and doors pick up her public post. Watching daily is persistence at a place she already occupies, not camping on a mystery. Happiness here is the old blessing of a well-aimed life, not a mood requirement.
Finding her is life; hating her is a love of death
Whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD. Whoever misses me, or sins against me, injures himself; all who hate me love death.
Life and the LORD's favor are the stakes of heeding this public voice. Loving death is the book's hard name for refusing her, not a diagnosis of grief, illness, or a death wish that needs care. A person in despair needs presence and qualified help, not this antithesis thrown as a stone.
How this should shape us
Show up again tomorrow where truthful wisdom is already speaking. Treat refusal as self-harm, not as sophistication. If someone speaks as if they love death, stay with them and get qualified help; do not preach this verse as their verdict.
