Romans 5:12–21
Adam's Trespass and Christ's Gift Establish Opposing Reigns
Adam's trespass and Christ's gift establish opposing reigns, and the gift is greater.
Through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and death spread to all because all sinned. The free gift is not like the trespass: one trespass brought condemnation, but the gift following many trespasses brought justification. Death reigned through Adam; those who receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life.
Adam's role in the story does not authorize blaming women, bodies, sexuality, or childbirth for the world's ruin. Christ's obedience, not contempt for flesh, is the surplus.
How this should shape us
Stop treating a woman's body, sex, or a birth as the explanation for evil. Receive the larger gift in Christ, and let grace's reign show up as life given, not as a theory that shames embodied people.
