The LORD Returns to a City of Truth and Life

Jealous return looks like old people and children in the same street

I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy. I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. Presence is not abstract glory. The city's names become truth and holiness, the very qualities chapter 7 said had been refused.

There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, every man with his staff in his hand for very age. The streets shall be full of boys and girls playing. What is marvelous, even difficult, in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, will it also be marvelous in the LORD's eyes? He will save his people from the east country and from the west country, bring them, and they shall dwell. They shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

A small Persian-period community is being taught what restored life looks like

Demographic loss, insecurity, and rebuilding strain made longevity and play look unrealistic. Staffs and games are civic evidence: a place where the very old and the very young can be outdoors without terror. East and west widen gathering without specifying a timetable. Near restoration and larger hope may overlap. Neither dissolves the street-level picture into a purely heavenly future.

The promise does not guarantee that present Jerusalem, a church, or a faithful family will be free from aging, disability, danger, or grief. Children in streets do not minimize safeguarding. Divine jealousy does not authorize nationalism or territorial violence. A restored community is recognizable in truth, holiness, belonging, and shared public life.
