Community talk. May be wrong. Not medical advice. Not a protocol. Not for human or animal use.
Systemic choline — several oral forms that are not the same milligram.
Common community amount for this specific form, not elemental-choline equivalence across products.
Exercise-study discussion, not a general cognitive timing standard.
Common lower-range discussion; older clinical work may use higher split totals.
A cheaper oral form with more GI and fishy-odor discussion; not milligram-equivalent to Alpha-GPC.
Older Alzheimer-disease research context rather than an acute focus amount.

Timing context & sources
Half-life in the body
One bodily half-life cannot be assigned to a card that merges several choline forms and food.
After oral Alpha-GPC, plasma free choline began rising by 0.75 hours and peaked around 1.5–2 hours. A six-person oral radiolabeled-citicoline study found plasma radioactivity peaks near 1 and 24 hours, reflecting extensive metabolism rather than intact-parent elimination.
Free-choline and total-radiolabel endpoints are not intact Alpha-GPC or citicoline half-lives and do not cover bitartrate, phosphatidylcholine or food.
- EFSA Journal — Safety of alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine as a novel food (opens in a new tab)Section 3.8.2 Human data: two 12-volunteer oral Alpha-GPC studies; free plasma choline rose from 0.75 h and reached maximum at about 1.5–2 h after 1,200 mg.The measured analyte was free choline, not intact Alpha-GPC elimination; small healthy-adult studies and a 1,200 mg research dose do not define effects for all card forms.
- Dinsdale et al. — Pharmacokinetics of 14C CDP-choline (opens in a new tab)Abstract: six adults received a single 300 mg oral 14C-citicoline dose; plasma radioactivity peaks occurred near 1 h and 24 h with biphasic urinary and respiratory excretion.Total radioactivity after extensive metabolism is not an intact-parent half-life; six participants and one dose do not establish a general choline-form clock.
Felt duration people report
Alpha-GPC effects are reported from the same session into the next day, but the direction and duration are inconsistent.
One author described a headache around 30 minutes followed by brief energy and clarity, then later said they stopped because of tiredness and depression. Another repeated-use account described a vivid/focused first day, a depressed second day and near-normal third day.
Self-reports use different products and co-agents, including stimulants, racetams and dietary choline; onset, adverse carryover and benefit duration are not the same endpoint.
- Why does Alpha-GPC make me feel like a god? (opens in a new tab)Post body and same-author later comments: 150 mg after a nap, headache at roughly 30 min, very brief energy/clarity, then later discontinuation because of tiredness and depression. One self-report with ADHD medication and four raw eggs as explicit confounders; product identity and timing are unverified.
- Alpha-GPC 150 mg — consistent side effects (opens in a new tab)Post body: repeated four or five times; day 1 vivid colors/focus, day 2 depressed and demotivated, day 3 near normal. Replies report both similar and different reactions.Unverified supplements and self-observation; irregular-heartbeat concern was not medically attributed, and replies use different amounts and forms.
What people say
- Racetam headache insurance: The classic LongeCity move — add choline when piracetam/noopept gives a dull headache. forum
- Alpha-GPC 300–600 mg daily: Focus/processing n=1s. Some split AM/PM. forum
- Eggs-first crowd: “Just eat yolks” vs a $40 GPC bottle. forum
- Too much = headache anyway. Choline dump is the irony. forum
- Alpha-GPC vs citicoline vs bitartrate: GPC ~40% choline by weight, faster “pre-workout / racetam” feel. Citicoline ~18% choline plus cytidine → uridine membrane / dopamine lore, 250–500 mg. Bitartrate is elemental-choline cheap, poor BBB reputation, fishy TMAO crowd. Forms are not 1:1 milligrams. forum
- Citicoline / Cognizin: Stroke-rehab and attention papers in some countries; 250–500 mg is the common cap. trial
- Alpha-GPC 600 mg: Small lift-power studies (isometric pull / velocity) are what gym nootropic posts paste. trial
- 2025 review footnote: A 2025 vascular-dementia review that favored Alpha-GPC used ~1,000 mg intramuscular — not the 300–600 mg oral cap people screenshot. trial
Doses people talk about
- Alpha-GPC nootropic: 300–600 mg/day, sometimes split. forum
- Bitartrate: 500–2000 mg — more GI/fishy, less “brain” reputation. forum
- Alpha-GPC gym study talk: 600 mg ~45–90 min pre-lift. trial
- Citicoline: 250–500 mg/day (some older clinical work higher, split). trial
- Alzheimer-range GPC in older papers went to ~1200 mg/day split — not the Twitter focus scoop. trial
- Framing: Form milligrams, not a prescription, not elemental-choline apples-to-apples. forum
How it may feel
- Hour 1 Alpha-GPC: A subset feels a clean focus bump; another subset feels tense or sweaty. forum
- Days 1–7 bitartrate: Fishy sweat/breath is the meme side. forum
- With a racetam: Headache either disappears (the point) or you stacked two headaches. forum
- Weeks: Citicoline logs are slow “words come easier,” not a stimulant. forum
- After stopping: The inspected reports do not establish either a withdrawal syndrome or its absence. Some Alpha-GPC users describe fatigue or low mood easing by about day 3; a racetam-linked headache may still return if choline had been masking it. forum
Around the dose
- Clock: With the study/work block, or with a racetam if that’s the stack. Not a night knockout. forum
- Pairing: The classic “racetam headache → add choline” habit. Dihexa threads mention choline when racetams are also in the log. forum
- Food: Eggs/meal vs a capsule is a preference, not a locked rule. forum
- Form pick: GPC with the study or lift block; citicoline as a daily slower cap; bitartrate if the goal is cheap dietary choline, not a nootropic. forum
- Label math: Alpha-GPC 50% vs 99% — 50% is usually a carrier so the powder doesn’t gel. Count active GPC, not bottle milligrams. forum
Cycles people discuss
- Daily with the nootropic stack, or lift-day GPC only. Two patterns. forum
- Not a 6-week blast. Nutrient-ish. forum
- Drop GPC if headaches or fishy odor win. forum
- Food-first experiments: eggs/liver for a week before adding a cap. forum
Timing
- Alpha-GPC is the fast one in forum timing — morning or pre-workout. forum
- Citicoline is slower “membrane” talk — people are less ritualistic about Tmax. forum
- TMAO is a chronic-intake story, not a 90-minute pump. forum
- Split 1200 mg GPC in old clinical work because a single gram is a lot of cholinergic tone. trial
More on what it is
- Why people talk about it: Racetam stacks (“take choline or you get a headache”), Huberman/Attia egg talk, and Alpha-GPC 300–600 mg for focus or a 600 mg pre-lift power study. forum
- Forms are not 1:1: Alpha-GPC ~40% choline by weight and crosses into the brain fast. Citicoline splits to choline + cytidine (membrane lore). Bitartrate is cheap, more TMAO/fishy-odor talk, weaker “nootropic.” forum
- Not a racetam. Not Dihexa. It is the building-block people add *to* those. forum
- 2025–26 form fight: r/Supplements still splits it as Alpha-GPC for the gym / acute acetylcholine bump, citicoline (CDP-choline / Cognizin) for slower “words and membranes,” bitartrate as the cheap fishy bottle that barely shows up in nootropic logs. forum
- What it is: The nutrient acetylcholine is built from. Eggs and liver already have it. Capsules are Alpha-GPC, CDP-choline (citicoline), bitartrate, or phosphatidylcholine. One card because people search “choline.” trial
- RDA vs scoop: Adequate intake is hundreds of milligrams of choline from food. Nootropic bottles add 250–600 mg of a *form*, not always that much elemental choline. trial
- TMAO / stroke headline: Chronic high-dose Alpha-GPC has a stroke-association scare in popular write-ups; Huberman-adjacent posts add garlic/allicin as a TMAO hedge. Association ≠ a settled “this capsule causes stroke.” trial
Stacks
- + Noopept / racetams: The original reason this card exists in peptide-adjacent rooms. forum
- + Caffeine / uridine / fish oil: Classic r/Nootropics “stack screenshot.” forum
- + Semax / Dihexa: People add choline because the screenshot had it, not because the peptide needs it. forum
- Eggs + GPC is how people double-dose without noticing. forum
- Don’t swap bitartrate 1:1 for GPC / citicoline when the job is “brain.” 2026 comparison threads still dunk on bitartrate for cognition and keep it for cheap choline-in / liver-fat talk. forum
Access talk
- Three shelves: Alpha-GPC (50% caps vs hygroscopic 99% powder), citicoline (generic vs Cognizin branded), cheap bitartrate. Amazon and ND are the named stores. forum
- Cognizin costs more; 2026 r/Nootropics threads argue whether the brand is worth ~2× generic citicoline. forum
- 50% vs 99% GPC math is the first identity check — 50% is usually a carrier, not “half-strength choline” in the way people first read it. forum
- Not a peptide. Not a 503A compounding staple. forum
Labs people mention
- Glucose is not the choline headline. forum
- Lipids sometimes show up in phosphatidylcholine / liver threads, not as a GPC selling point. forum
- Huberman-adjacent posts still add garlic / allicin as a TMAO hedge — forum habit. forum
- TMAO is the lab people argue about on chronic Alpha-GPC / high-bitartrate — not a day-one glucose stick. Association talk, not a settled “this capsule causes stroke.” trial
Storage notes
- Capsules. Hygroscopic GPC cakes if the lid is sloppy. forum
- Alpha-GPC 50% powder vs 99% — the 50% is often on a carrier; milligrams on the label are the fight. forum
Watch for
- Headache / tense / depressed cholinergic dump from too much. forum
- Fishy odor / sweat especially bitartrate. forum
- GI / nausea. forum
- Depression/anxiety in a minority who already run high-acetylcholine stacks. forum
- 50% vs 99% GPC math — easy to under- or over-count. forum
- Not a substitute for a stroke-rehab citicoline protocol you saw in another country. forum
- TMAO / long-term Alpha-GPC stroke association in popular risk posts. Association does not establish causation or an individual's risk timing. trial
