Boasting Stays Within God's Field and Ends in the Lord's Approval
Boast only in the field where the gospel actually arrived, and let the Lord do the approving.
Paul will not boast beyond limits but according to the measure of the field God assigned, a field that reached as far as Corinth. He is not overextending, because he came all the way to them with the gospel. He does not boast in work already done in someone else's area. As their faith grows, he hopes to be enlarged among them so that he can preach in lands beyond, without boasting in another's work. "Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord." It is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.
Mission-field language describes entrusted scope. It does not authorize territorial control, colonial conquest, cultural erasure, or ownership of converts. Refusing to boast in others' labor is not a ban on collaboration. The Lord's commendation does not excuse the absence of human evidence and accountability.
