A Near-Death Testament Prioritizes Remembrance
A near-death reminder, not a personality cult
The Petrine voice will keep reminding people who already know and are established, because while he lives in this tent he expects to put it off soon, as the Lord made clear. The aim is that after his departure they can recall these things. Memory is pastoral work. Knowing the truth once is not the same as having it available when the speaker is gone.
The passage does not give a date or medical prediction for Peter's death. Calling the body a tent does not make embodiment dirty or disposable. Testamentary form matters for the authorship debate — farewell of Peter, authorized testament, or later writing in his name — and that debate stays open without emptying the ethic. A leader's last words are still testable. The community must be able to remember the teaching, not the celebrity.
How this should shape us
Write down sources, limits, and who does the ordinary jobs after you are gone. If the faith of a household currently lives only in one person's head, that is the problem this unit names. Departure is coming for every tent. The kindness is a memory that does not require your voice in the room.

Best judgment: The principal historical disagreement is whether this is direct Petrine farewell, Petrine-authorized testament, or later testamentary pseudepigraphy. The immediate rhetorical function is clearer than the compositional reconstruction: reliable memory must continue after the speaker's death.
