Acts 13:1–13:3
Antioch discerns and sends Barnabas and Saul
A mixed Antioch circle fasts, hears the Spirit, and sends two of its own
In the church that is at Antioch there are certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon that was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they minister to the Lord and fast, the Holy Ghost says, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. When they have fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they send them away.
The named leadership already spans social and geographic backgrounds, including a man raised with a Herodian. The text does not define every role. Communal worship, fasting, prayer, and laying on of hands frame the sending. Private ambition is not the engine. Barnabas is still named first.

Discern a sending in the company that already shares worship and fasting. Lay hands on people you actually know, and do not let a gifted pair appoint themselves without the church that formed them.
