Acts 13:13–13:16
The team changes and Paul addresses the synagogue
John leaves the work, and a synagogue still invites the visitors to speak
When Paul and his company loose from Paphos, they come to Perga in Pamphylia. John departing from them returns to Jerusalem. When they depart from Perga, they come to Antioch in Pisidia, and go into the synagogue on the sabbath day and sit down. After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue send unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. Paul stands up, beckons with his hand, and says, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.
Luke supplies no motive for John's departure here. Later disagreement must not be backfilled as certainty. The invitation comes after Moses and the prophets have already been read. Paul addresses Israelites and God-fearers inside a living synagogue, not against it.
How this should shape us
Keep showing up in the assembly that has already opened Scripture, and answer an invitation without inventing a coworker's motives. A departure you do not understand is not yet a verdict you may publish.
