Paul and Barnabas separate over John Mark
A sharp disagreement divides a proven partnership without a declared winner
Paul proposes revisiting the cities where they have preached. Barnabas is determined to take John Mark. Paul thinks it unwise because Mark left them in Pamphylia and did not go on to the work. The contention is sharp enough that they separate. Barnabas sails to Cyprus with Mark. Paul chooses Silas, is commended by the brothers to the grace of God, and goes through Syria and Cilicia strengthening churches.
Acts does not crown one leader, narrate instant reconciliation, or treat two later routes as proof the rupture was harmless. The mission continues along two paths. The friendship is broken in this scene. Productive outcomes later, if any, do not rewrite the cost.
How this should shape us
Name a serious team conflict without crowning either party. Protect the people still depending on the work, refuse character attacks, and do not excuse relational harm because later output looks useful.
