Acts 22:12–22:16
Ananias restores sight and names Paul's witness
A Torah-devout neighbor restores sight and joins baptism to calling
Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews living there, comes, calls him brother Saul, and Paul's sight is restored. Ananias says the God of their fathers has appointed Paul to know his will, see the Righteous One, hear his voice, and be a witness to all people of what he has seen and heard. Why delay? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on his name.
The speech puts Ananias's Jewish credibility in front of this crowd. Baptism, washing, and calling are joined. Forgiveness is not reduced to water as a mechanism independent of the name that is invoked, and Damascus is not staged as a rejection of Jewish life.

Receive restoration through a trusted person in the harmed community's world. Let baptism and witness move together without turning the washing into magic or erasing the Jewish frame in which this recovery is told.
