Acts 22:6–22:11
Paul retells the heavenly confrontation
Noon light, a name, and companions who do not share the whole event
Near Damascus about noon a great light from heaven shines around Paul. He falls and hears, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?" He asks who is speaking and is told, "I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest." Those with him see the light and are afraid but do not hear the voice of the one speaking. Told to go into Damascus for further instruction, Paul cannot see for the glory of that light and is led by the hand into the city.
Acts 9, 22, and 26 differ in what companions perceive. Those differences are literary retellings from different standings, not a demand that every detail be forced into identical wording. The encounter is particular to this persecutor. It is not a required conversion pattern.
