Ecclesiastes 12:1-8
Remember the Creator Before Aging and Death
Remember now thy Creator, before the poem of failing house and light
Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. The sun, moon, and stars are darkened; clouds return after the rain.
Keepers of the house tremble; strong men bow; grinders cease; those that look out of the windows are darkened; doors shut in the streets; the almond tree flourishes; the grasshopper is a burden; desire fails; man goes to his long home; mourners go about the streets. The silver cord is loosed, the golden bowl broken, pitcher broken at the fountain, wheel broken at the cistern. Then shall the dust return to the earth, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. The aging poem is mortal truth, not a mockery of old people, not a medical chart, and not a claim that remembering the Creator is only for the young.
