Ecclesiastes 7:15-18
Righteousness, Wickedness, and the Fear of God
Just people perish; wicked people prolong
In the days of his vanity he has seen the just perish in his righteousness, and the wicked prolong his life in his wickedness. Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise. Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish.
It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not thine hand: for he that fears God shall come forth of them all. The warning is against self-made extremes that pretend to control outcomes, not against ordinary justice or against refusing evil.
How this should shape us
Do not treat visible outcomes as a moral scoreboard. Fear of God here is a way through, not a bargain that the just will never perish.
