Ezekiel 10:1–8
Coals from among the Cherubim Are Scattered over the City
The likeness of a throne appears again above the cherubim
Then he looks, and behold, in the firmament that is above the head of the cherubims there appears over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.
He speaks unto the man clothed with linen: Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. The man goes in in Ezekiel's sight.
Cloud and glory fill the court
Now the cherubims stand on the right side of the house, when the man goes in; and the cloud fills the inner court. The glory of the LORD goes up from the cherub, and stands over the threshold of the house; the house is filled with the cloud, and the court is full of the brightness of the LORD's glory. The sound of the cherubims' wings is heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh.
A cherub stretches forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire, takes thereof, and puts it into the hands of him that is clothed with linen, who takes it and goes out. There appears in the cherubims the form of a man's hand under their wings. The coals do not authorize arson, holy-war imagery, or copying a visionary judgment act.
How this should shape us
Leave the coals in the vision. Do not scatter fire over a city, and do not call an attack a cherub's errand.
