Ezekiel 18:25–29
The Charge That God's Way Is Unequal Is Reversed
Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal
Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
The house of Israel says, The way of the Lord is not equal
O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? The charge of unfairness is reversed by applying the same turn-based logic to both sides.
The answer does not settle every philosophical problem of suffering or permit telling victims their complaint is rebellion. People may still cry that the world is crooked. This unit answers a proverb about moral fatalism, not every scream from a ruin.
How this should shape us
Stop calling God unfair because he lets a wicked person turn and live, or because he will not freeze a righteous reputation. Still do not scold a sufferer as if their protest were this proverb.
