Ezekiel 8:14–15
Women Weep for Tammuz at the North Gate
Women sitting, weeping for Tammuz
Then he brings him to the door of the gate of the LORD's house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. The scene is brief and located: north gate, a named lament.
Then said he unto him, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these. The vision ranks what it shows; it does not pause to lecture women as a class.
A named rite is not a warrant against women
Tammuz weeping is shown as part of the temple's compounding abominations. The book does not supply a full ritual manual, and certainty about every detail is not required.
The scene does not license misogyny, ridicule of grieving women, or using a short notice to shame female lament. Grief at a gate is not a joke.
How this should shape us
Do not mock women because this unit is short and sharp. Refuse misogyny, and refuse to pretend you know more about Tammuz here than the verse states.
