Ezra 2:36–58
Temple personnel and attached servants are registered
Priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, and the Nethinim
Temple work is staffed before the temple is standing. Jedaiah of the house of Jeshua, Immer, Pashhur, and Harim are counted as priests. Levites, singers of Asaph, gatekeepers, temple servants, and the children of Solomon's servants follow. Worship is not an idea waiting for a building. It is a people with jobs.
Attached labor belongs in the story
The Nethinim and the servants attached to Solomon's line are registered with the holy staff, not hidden as an embarrassment. A restored house of God includes those whose status is service rather than land or priestly pedigree. The list refuses a purely aristocratic picture of return.
How this should shape us
Honor the unglamorous offices that make worship possible. Choirs, doors, wood, water, and inherited service are not extras. If only the famous names count in your assembly, you have already rewritten Ezra's register.
