Ezra 8:15–20
Ezra recruits Levites and temple servants
Camped at the river, Ezra finds no Levites
They gather at the river that runs to Ahava three days, and Ezra reviews the people and priests, but finds none of the sons of Levi. A scribe's company can be priest-heavy and still liturgically incomplete. He will not leave with a hole in the staff the house requires.
A recruited ministry, not a leftover
Ezra sends for Iddo at Casiphia, and by the good hand of God they bring Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and other men of understanding, with twenty-two Levites and two hundred twenty Nethinim whom David and the princes had given for Levite service. The second return is patched by appeal and response. Temple servants are again counted as essential, not as a footnote.

Notice who is missing before you depart. Some gaps are not failures of faith but failures of recruitment. Ask, wait, and make room for servants whose work is not famous. A traveling company is not ready merely because the leader is ready.
