Galatians 2:1–10

Titus Remains Uncircumcised as the Leaders Recognize One Mission

One gospel, two fields: Titus is not compelled, and the poor are not forgotten.

In Jerusalem Paul presents the gospel he preaches among the nations. Titus, a Greek, is not forced into circumcision. James, Cephas, and John add nothing to that Gentile message, recognize differentiated missions, extend fellowship, and ask that the poor be remembered.

Titus's freedom tests whether Gentile inclusion needs a Jewish body-mark as its ticket. It does not authorize coercing Jewish people to abandon circumcision, Torah practice, or ethnic identity.

How this should shape us

Protect belonging that does not require a second ethnicity. Honor Jewish and Gentile vocations as one mission, and keep the poor on the agenda of every fellowship handshake.

Teach it back

Explain Galatians 2:1–10 in your own words. Include its place in Galatians's movement, the unit's logic, one material uncertainty, and one use the context rules out.

Where careful interpreters disagreeThe strongest options and their difficulties

Where do careful interpreters disagree?

Best judgment: The historical visit, identity of the 'false brethren,' exact force of running in vain, and relation between mission spheres are disputed. The firm textual results are that Titus was not compelled, pressure was resisted for the Galatians' sake, recognized leaders added nothing to Paul's gospel, and material care remained part of partnership.
