Galatians 6:1–5

Gentle Restoration Bears Burdens without Avoiding Personal Responsibility

Gentleness restores a caught person without dumping responsibility or trapping a victim.

Those who live by the Spirit are to restore someone overtaken in a trespass with a spirit of gentleness, watching themselves lest they too be tempted. They bear one another's crushing burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Each must still test their own work without comparison and carry their own accountable load.

Shared mercy is not an excuse to dodge your own work. Gentle restoration does not require a victim to reconcile, meet an offender, forgive on demand, remain nearby, or support reinstatement.

How this should shape us

Go toward failure without humiliation, and keep victims free of forced reunion. Carry what is crushing for someone else, and do not use their crisis to avoid your own load.

Teach it back

Explain Galatians 6:1–5 in your own words. Include its place in Galatians's movement, the unit's logic, one material uncertainty, and one use the context rules out.

Where careful interpreters disagreeThe strongest options and their difficulties

Where do careful interpreters disagree?

Best judgment: Interpreters debate the precise 'law of Christ' and how verses 2 and 5 cohere. A strong reading distinguishes mutual support for crushing burdens from each person's nontransferable accountability, with restoration shaped by gentleness and self-watch.
