Isaiah 62:10–12
A Cleared Highway Announces the Sought-Out People
Build up the highway; they shall be called Sought Out
Go through the gates; prepare the way for the people; build up the highway; clear it of stones; lift up a signal over the peoples. The Lord has proclaimed to the end of the earth: say to daughter Zion, see, your salvation comes; his reward is with him. They shall be called the Holy People, the Redeemed of the Lord; and you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken.
The road is for people coming home, marked so that the nations can see the signal. Names accumulate until the old nickname Forsaken is crowded out. This remains poetry of restoration, not a deed, not immunity, not supersession, not coercive control.
Sought Out is perhaps the tenderest title in the stretch. A warranted life is to clear stones from other people's way home, to announce salvation as arrival rather than as our achievement, and to treat being wanted by God as the city's true politics.
