James 3:13–18
Wisdom from Above Is Gentle, Merciful, Impartial, and Peace-Making
Wisdom shows in meekness, not in a sharp performance
Who is wise and understanding? James answers with conduct: a good life, works done in the gentleness of wisdom. Bitter jealousy and selfish ambition can sound clever and still be earthly, unspiritual, demonic. Disorder and vile practice follow that heart. If your 'discernment' mainly needs someone else to lose, it is not from above.
Wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, and sincere. A harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. Gentleness is not a demand that victims remain near abusers, stop reporting harm, or surrender legal and protective boundaries. Peace-making protects people. It does not baptize the peace of the predator.
How this should shape us
Let your next disagreement show gentleness, mercy, and a willingness to be taught, not a need to win. Protecting someone from harm—including leaving an unsafe place—is still wisdom from above.
