Do Not Slander a Neighbor and Seize the Judge's Place
Do not seize the Judge's chair
Do not speak evil against one another. The one who slanders a brother or sister and judges a neighbor puts himself above the law rather than under it. There is one Lawgiver and Judge, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge your neighbor? James is stopping reputation-hunting in the family, not pitting Christians against Jews, and not handing the church a gag for the wounded.
This prohibition does not silence victims, witnesses, whistleblowers, journalists, courts, safeguarding teams, or evidence-based correction. Naming harm in order to stop it is not seizing God's throne. Using speech to diminish a neighbor so you can stand taller is. Tell the truth that protects. Refuse the story that merely wins.
