Pharaoh Hophra's Fall Is Given as a Sign
Pharaoh Hophra's fall is offered as a dated sign
A sign is given so they will know the word against them will stand: the LORD will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, as Zedekiah was given into Nebuchadnezzar's hand. The confirmation is another royal collapse, not a mystical code for later palaces.
Hophra belongs to an ancient Egyptian court. The sign does not identify modern Egyptian rulers, and it does not validate assassination. Zedekiah's capture is recalled as the pattern of a king handed over, which is already grief in Judah's story, not a model to admire or repeat.
How this should shape us
Let a sign stay in its century. Do not hunt living presidents through Pharaoh's name, and do not bless the killing of rulers because an oracle once used a king's fall as proof.
