Baruch Is Told Not to Seek Great Things
In a time of tearing down, life is the spoil
The LORD says he is breaking down what he built and plucking up what he planted, the whole land. Baruch is asked whether he will seek great things for himself. He is told not to, because disaster is being brought on all flesh. The rebuke is aimed at ambition inside collapse, not at ordinary work, fair pay, recognition, or the desire to be safe.
The gift is narrow and real: your life will be given you as spoil in all places to which you go. Survival is not a small thing when everything is being pulled up. The promise is not a career plan, a ban on healthy hopes, or a rule that faithful people must stay obscure. It is a word to a tired scribe that he will live.
How this should shape us
Do not demand a great platform from a season of demolition. Take the life you are given, protect it, and keep doing the work. Ambition is not the enemy; making yourself the exception while the world is being torn is.
