Jeremiah 9:23–24
Boasting Yields to Steadfast Love, Justice, and Righteousness
Wisdom, might, and riches are not the permitted boast
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches.
The contrast does not disparage learning, strength, or resources. It tests the boast. Skill, power, and wealth remain real goods that can become a glory rivaling knowledge of God.
The allowed glory is knowing the LORD who delights in loyal love on earth
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
Knowing is defined by what the LORD exercises: steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth — not a private mystic badge. Delight is located on earth, where those three are done.
How this should shape us
Boast, if you boast, in knowing the God who loves loyal love, justice, and righteousness done on the ground. Use wisdom, strength, and money; do not wear them as your name.
