Job Says His Grief Explains the Weight of His Words
Job asks that grief be placed on the scale before his words are judged
Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up. For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.
Hunger images explain why speech has gone off
Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or loweth the ox over his fodder? Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg? The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.
He is not asking the friends to admire his metaphors. He is saying that the weight accounts for the sound. The language of arrows and terror is testimony of pain and of felt divine hostility. It is not ingratitude to be corrected, and it is not a clinical chart.

Weigh a person's loss before you weigh their tone. Do not correct metaphors of poison and arrows as if milder speech would make the calamity lighter.
