Leviticus 19:1-8
Holiness begins with parents, Sabbaths, exclusive worship, and timely offerings
Holiness is grounded in the LORD, then given household form
The whole congregation is told, 'Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.' The first applications are reverence for mother and father, keeping Sabbaths, and refusal of idols and molten gods. Holiness begins as belonging to God, then as ordinary loyalty in home and worship.
A well-being offering has a clock
When a peace offering is made, it is to be eaten the same day and the next; anything left to the third day is burned. Eating it on the third day is an abomination, and the eater bears iniquity for profaning the holy thing.
Parental reverence in this opening is not a command to endure abuse or hide crime. Holiness is not blind obedience to family power, and a leftover meal rule is not a mystical diet.
How this should shape us
Let holiness show up in how parents are honored without protecting abusers, how rest is kept, and how worship stays free of images and of careless handling of what was offered to God.
