Nehemiah 12:27–12:30
Singers gather and purification precedes dedication
Levites and singers are sought from the villages
At the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they seek the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps. The sons of the singers gather themselves from the plain country about Jerusalem, from the villages of Netophathi, Beth-gilgal, Geba, and Azmaveth, for the singers had builded themselves villages round about Jerusalem.
Priests and Levites purify people, gates, and wall
The priests and the Levites purify themselves, and purify the people, and the gates, and the wall. Celebration requires distributed personnel and ritual preparation, not a hero's solo spectacle.
Purification here is a rite applied to ministers, congregation, and structures. It is not ethnic cleansing, and it does not treat persons as physical dirt.
