Nehemiah 7:5–7:7
An earlier return register is introduced
God puts it in his heart to enroll the people
Nehemiah says God put it into his heart to gather nobles, rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. He finds a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and finds written in it a heading from the exile.
An earlier return is named before the totals begin
These are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away, and who came again to Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city. Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah lead the list.
The memoir embeds an inherited document. Archives can serve repopulation. They cannot define human worth or close the membership of everyone living in Yehud.
