Zelophehad's Daughters Comply and Numbers Closes
The five sisters marry their cousins inside Manasseh
Even as the LORD commanded Moses, so did the daughters of Zelophehad. Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah were married unto their father's brothers' sons. They were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.
Numbers closes with commands given in Moab by Jordan near Jericho
These are the commandments and the judgments which the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses unto the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.
The named women comply; the land stays in Manasseh; the book ends at the river. Compliance does not prove the restriction was freely chosen or universally just. A closing command formula does not authorize modern patriarchy or a territorial claim. The daughters remain the people who stood up in chapter 27, now married under the fence of this chapter. Both scenes are the truth of their story.
How this should shape us
Do not read a last verse of obedience as if it cancelled the courage of the petition. Keep the sisters' names. Do not use their marriages to cousins as a model, and do not treat a Moab colophon as a deed or a household code for today.
