Philippians 2:19–24

Timothy Shows Genuine Concern

Timothy's proven care seeks their welfare, not his own.

Paul hopes in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy soon, so that he too may be cheered by news of them. He has no one else of like mind who will genuinely care for their state; others seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

They know Timothy's proven worth: as a son with a father he has served with Paul in the gospel. Paul will send him as soon as he sees how it goes with himself, and he trusts in the Lord that he also will come. Character is measured by whose good a messenger actually seeks.

How this should shape us

Notice who in your church actually asks after other people's welfare. Be that person this week, and trust proven care more than a gifted self-promoter.
