Psalms 107:43–43
Let the redeemed tell four rescue stories: Wisdom attends to steadfast love
The last line turns the whole psalm into a wisdom test
Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.
After wanderers, prisoners, the sick, sailors, ruined fields, and raised poor, the poem does not add a sixth story. It asks for a kind of seeing. Lovingkindness is the same steadfast love named in the opening refrain. Wisdom here is attention, not a clever summary.
Observation is the opposite of using the psalm as a slot machine
To observe these things is to notice the pattern of cry, rescue, and reversal without pretending you can schedule the next one. The wise person reads the four panels and the land-reversal as a portrait of hesed, not as a formula for making God pay.
How this should shape us
Pay attention to actual rescues and actual reversals. Let steadfast love be what you learn, not a technique for getting out of the next wilderness on demand.
