Forgiveness, harvest, and creation's abundance

Zion waits with vows, and all flesh comes to a God who hears prayer

Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed. O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come. Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away. Blessed is the one whom thou choosest, and causest to approach, that he may dwell in thy courts.

The hymn holds confession and access together. Terrible things in righteousness, confidence of all the ends of the earth and of those far off on the sea, mountains set fast, seas stilled, and tumult of peoples quieted: the God who purges also orders coasts and nations.

The river of God waters ridges until valleys shout

Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it. Furrows are settled, ridges watered, springing made soft with showers, the year crowned with goodness. Paths drop fatness. Wilderness pastures and little hills rejoice. Flocks clothe the pastures; valleys are covered with corn; they shout for joy, they also sing.

Agricultural abundance is communal praise of a watered land. It is not a prosperity guarantee, a denial of drought, climate risk, labor, or unequal tables, or a claim that every faithful farm sings. Forgiveness and harvest share one psalm because both are received.
