In brief

HYROX is a fitness race that alternates running sections with a fixed sequence of workout stations.

The common picture
8 × (1 km run + station)Official format: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, row, farmer carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls.
Open vs Pro weightsThe sled and the sandbag change. People sign the wrong one.
Run after the sledThe 2026 first-race thread. Legs are not the same legs.
Doubles: both partners run; station work is sharedOpen and Pro refer to different divisions and loads, separate from choosing a partner.
One race as a goalNot a 6-day HYROX lifestyle unless they already train.

Participants discuss divisions, station technique, transitions and what it feels like to run after demanding work such as the sled push.

Good to know. Treating HYROX as a beginner program. Only training stations. Open vs Pro weights by surprise.

What people say

  • The job: Finish 8 km of running with eight ugly stations in between.
  • hyrox.com is the format source. The stations do not rotate.
  • r/hyrox 2026: first-timers undertrain the sled *and* the run after the sled. Jog the runs, keep moving.
  • “I trained heavier sleds and race day was still worse.” Carpet, length, and panic change the feel.
  • Repeat racers say they added more easy running, not more wall-ball EMOMs.
  • Self `hyrox` stays the scene / crew. This card is race week and the session.
  • It is not CrossFit. It is not a marathon. It is a long, specific grind.
  • You do not need HYROX to get fit. It is a named weekend some people like.
  • Open is plenty. Pro is a different tax.
  • Wall balls at the end are a mental event. People practice them last on purpose.
  • First-race advice that repeats: don’t walk the runs; walking the stations is fine.

How people do it

  • Build a running base (easy miles) before they live on the sled.
  • Practice sled push/pull on a similar surface if they can find one.
  • Brick sessions: station, then a km, then a station. That is the race.
  • Carry and lunge practice with a weight they can stay tall with.
  • Race week: they taper new pain. They do not learn wall balls on Thursday.
  • Race day: jog the km, attack what they trained, keep moving.
  • After: a deload week. They will want to sign another. They should walk first.

Amounts people use

  • Runs: 8 × 1 km.
  • Stations: 8, fixed order.
  • Training week talk: 2–3 hybrid sessions + easy runs, not 10.
  • First-timers: months of general lifting + running beats 4 weeks of only HYROX WODs.
  • Sled: Open weights are the ones most diaries mean. Check the year/division sheet.

How people keep it

  • A race date so the week has a shape.
  • A gym with a sled or a substitute (prowler, heavy push).
  • Easy miles on the other days.
  • They do not copy a Pro athlete’s week.
  • A friend in the same wave if they can — or Doubles.

How it may feel

  • SkiErg: fine. False confidence.
  • After the sleds: the first honest kilometer.
  • Burpees / lunges: personal crisis.
  • Wall balls: the last room. Arms and pride.
  • Finish chute: they swear never again, then they search dates.
  • Week after: they walk like penguins. That is the receipt.

How long

  • A 8–16 week specific block on top of a base is common talk.
  • One race can be the whole point.
  • A season if they like the scene.
  • It is not a forever daily program.

The longer notes

  • Running is half the race. Station rats get surprised.
  • Loaded carries are a station and a gym accessory. See Loaded carry.
  • 75 Hard plus HYROX is how people get hurt and bitter.
  • Self hyrox card is the crew / identity. This is the format.
  • You can train hybrid without paying for a race.

More from the community

A September 2026 first-race account described the sled feeling much harder than in training and the running afterwards feeling like a different event. In the replies, the poster contrasted the gym’s rubber surface with the race surface; transition time was another surprise in the original account. The useful comparison is not only the weight written on a sled. Surface, equipment and what comes immediately afterwards are part of the experience being reported.Source 1

Good to know

  • Not a first-gym-week program.
  • Do not sign Pro as a dare.
  • Do not only train stations.
  • Rhabdomyolysis / collapsing stories exist. Heat plus ego is a person and a medic.
  • Pain that is a pop or a twist is a stop.

Earlier wording (updated)
  • Doubles exists A partner race. Still not a beginner “program.”
