1 Timothy 6:11–16
Pursue Gentle Faithfulness before the Life-Giving God
Flee greed, pursue gentleness, and leave the timetable with God
But you, person of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. The struggle is fenced by that virtue list. Fight here is contest and fidelity, not a hunt. The charge is given in the presence of God who gives life to all things and of Christ Jesus who made the good confession before Pontius Pilate: keep the command unstained until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.
That appearing will be shown at the proper time by the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Timing is not Timothy's to seize. King-of-kings language limits every empire; it does not baptize a nation, party, or church as God's rule. Keeping the command does not make a leader sinless or beyond review.
How this should shape us
When money or controversy pulls, practice the opposite list: justice, love, endurance, gentleness. Defend truth without treating people as enemies to destroy, and do not use Christ's appearing or God's kingship to underwrite a political takeover.
