Peter redirects wonder from the apostles to Jesus
Peter denies that the apostles' power or holiness healed the man
As the healed man holds Peter and John, all the people run together in Solomon's porch. Peter asks why they marvel, and why they look on them as though by their own power or holiness they had made him walk. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of their fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. Peter then names what they did: they delivered him up, denied him in Pilate's presence, denied the Holy and Righteous One, asked a murderer, and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised, of which they are witnesses.
Faith in Jesus' name has made this man strong, the faith which is by him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of them all. Servant, child, and name language needs translation care; the point is Jesus, not the apostles' aura. Peter speaks within Israel's scriptural story to his kin and condemns particular actions. The charge is not a collective verdict on Jews as a people.
Wonder is redirected from healers to the glorified servant
The man holding them is evidence. The apostles refuse the credit. Intra-Jewish confrontation here is about a specific denial in Jerusalem, not a license for later Gentile Christians to indict Jewish neighbors.
How this should shape us
When people praise a visible good, point them to Jesus rather than to your power or holiness. Tell the truth about harm without converting an Israelite speech into ethnic blame.
