Acts 7:30–7:34
God calls Moses from holy ground
After forty years God speaks from the bush and sends Moses back
When forty years are expired, there appears to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. Moses sees and wonders at the sight; as he draws near to behold, the Lord's voice comes: 'I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' Moses trembles and dares not behold. The Lord says to put off the shoes from his feet, for the place where he stands is holy ground. The Lord has seen the affliction of his people in Egypt, heard their groaning, and has come down to deliver them. Now come, he will send Moses into Egypt.
Angel and Lord language interweave in biblical theophany; the speech does not freeze a later doctrine of how those words divide. What it emphasizes is God's covenant attention: the God of the fathers sees suffering and sends. The scene does not provide a general formula for private callings, inner voices, or claims that every strong impression is holy ground.

Shoes come off because God is present, not because Moses has mastered a ritual. Deliverance is God's descent, then Moses' return. A later reader who copies the bush as a technique for confirming a career has missed the groaning that God heard.
How this should shape us
Let God's attention to the oppressed, not a private glow, define calling. Do not turn this theophany into a method for proving your path, and do not separate the sending from the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
