Ezekiel 6:1–7
The Mountains and High Places Hear Judgment
Set thy face toward the mountains of Israel
Son of man, set thy face toward the mountains of Israel, and prophesy against them. Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. Behold, I am against you, and I will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.
Altars are desolate, images broken, slain men cast down before their idols, bones scattered before altars. In all the dwellingplaces the cities are laid waste and the high places desolate, that their altars may be laid waste.
You shall know that I am the LORD
The slain shall fall in the midst of you, and ye shall know that I am the LORD. Knowledge comes through the ruin of the cultic sites the oracle names, not through a license for later hands.
Mountain and shrine judgment does not authorize vandalism, religious hatred, ethnic cleansing, or violence against present worshipers. Ancient high places are not a warrant to attack living communities.
How this should shape us
Name false worship without picking up a hammer. Do not vandalize, and do not treat someone else's holy site as Ezekiel's mountain to wreck.
