Bildad Resents Job's Rebuke
Bildad hears Job's rebuke as an insult to the friends
Then answered Bildad the Shuhite. How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak. Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight? He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?
The comforter's wounded pride takes the floor. Bildad does not answer Job's evidence. He asks whether the world should be reordered for one angry man. Defensiveness is not a reply.
How this should shape us
Do not make the sufferer's anger the emergency. A friend counted as a beast still owes an answer to the losses, not a speech about his own reputation.
